Have you received an email with the subject along the lines of:
Important Reminder: Please Submit Your Refund Application OR
Tax Refund File Number 2009HMRC2918291UK2/164
purportedly from HM Revenue and Customs?
Please note this is a 'phishing scam'. HMRC NEVER email taxpayers to notify them of tax repayments.
The emails come from USA as several parts of the message such as 'Tax Refund Number' and 'fiscal activity' have no pertinence to the UK tax system. But beware - there are some emails doing the rounds which may sound convincing.
Please do NOT provide any personal or card details. Please delete the email and if applicable report it as spam to your email spam filter provider.
